Women's Health at Ten

Transcript

Hello I'm Angela and in this video I'll explain: what Pelvic Health Physiotherapy is; who it can help; and why so many people live with symptoms for far longer than they need to. Many people believe that bladder; bowel; or pelvic floor problems are simply a normal part of pregnancy; or ageing - While, others feel too embarrassed to talk about them at all. The truth is that while these conditions are common, they should never simply be accepted as something you have to live with. In fact, around one in three women experience urinary incontinence during their lifetime; one in ten experience bowel incontinence; and around one in twelve will experience pelvic organ prolapse. Despite how common these conditions are, many people never seek advice, often because they assume nothing can be done. Pelvic Health Physiotherapy can help with a wide range of conditions. These include: bladder and bowel symptoms; pelvic pain; prolapse; pregnancy-related discomfort; preparation for birth; recovery after childbirth; abdominal muscle separation; scar recovery following Caesarean section; Vaginismus, with pain during sex; menopausal symptoms; and returning safely to exercise after having a baby. Pelvic Health is not just for women. Men can also experience pelvic floor dysfunction; pelvic pain; bladder symptoms; and problems following prostate surgery. These conditions are equally important; and our team provides expert assessment, and treatment for men as well. Every appointment begins by taking time to understand you. We listen carefully to your symptoms, your medical history, your lifestyle and your goals before carrying out a detailed assessment. Where appropriate, this may include an internal examination, but only with your full consent, and we will always explain exactly what to expect beforehand. From there, we create a treatment plan that is tailored entirely to you. Treatment may include: hands-on physiotherapy; pelvic floor rehabilitation; breathing and movement retraining. Also - exercise; education and a personalised home management plan, including video based exercise programming if appropriate - to help you feel confident managing your symptoms, in everyday life. At Ten, we also look beyond the pelvic floor itself. Your breathing, posture, abdominal muscles, hips, spine and the way you move all influence how your body functions. By looking at the whole body, rather than one area in isolation, we can often identify the underlying causes of your symptoms and support longer-lasting recovery. As part of our Circle of Care, our Pelvic Health Physiotherapists work closely with our wider multidisciplinary team, including massage therapists, Clinical Exercise Specialists, Dynamic Reformer Pilates instructors, personal trainers and trusted medical partners. This means your care remains joined up throughout every stage of your recovery, pregnancy, postnatal journey or menopause. We want to help you feel confident in your body again - whether that means laughing without worrying about leaking, or returning to exercise after having a baby. We can also support you in managing the changes of menopause; recovering after surgery; or simply living your everyday life without discomfort. No one should feel they have to suffer in silence, and no concern is too small to talk about. If you have noticed changes in your bladder, bowel or pelvic health - please speak to our team. We're here to help you understand what's happening, support your recovery and help you take back control with confidence.
